According to the type of cooling heat exchanger, water thermostats are divided into:
direct cooling thermostats - cooling and heat removal are carried out by simply
mixing cooling water into the consumer circuit;
indirect cooling thermostats - the process is cooled by an indirect heat
exchanger (working and cooling liquids do not mix).
Direct cooling thermostats are used in systems where the cooling circuit
operates on water without the addition of glycol.
Direct thermostats have a significant advantage over thermocontrollers cooled
through an indirect heat exchanger. It lies in the fact that the temperature of
the consumer circuit can be slightly higher or even equal to the temperature of
the water coming from the cooling circuit, while it is possible to remove a
large amount of heat from the consumer. The main cooling circuit must be
closed.
Also, thermostats with direct heat exchange are indispensable in cases where it
is necessary to significantly increase the pressure locally on the consumer -
for example, on a large mold - such thermostats are called booster.
In thermostats with an indirect heat exchanger, heat transfer is carried out through a heat exchanger. Such thermocontrollers are mainly used in cases where the consumer’s coolant temperature is much higher than the temperature of the coolant. Also, the use of water thermostats with indirect heat transfer is necessary when it is necessary to separate the consumer circuit operating on clean water and the cooling circuit operating on a mixture of water with ethylene / propylene glycol.
